Marissa Meyer, the former CEO of Yahoo! back in the internet boom era, has launched a new photo-centric AI app, Dazzle AI, based on the AI photo technology of the now-shuttered Sunshine company. She founded Sunshine in 2018, which was initially focused on contact management, before pivoting, into event management and photo sharing, with the Shine app. In September, 2025, Meyer is closed the doors on Sunshine and sold the assets to Dazzle. The employees also moved to the new company, according to published reports. The news was first reported by Wired, which cited an email sent to Sunshine’s shareholders.
The app uses a photo-centric approach to AI assistance. The app, which is available for iOS, analyzes the users camera roll and, from analysing those images, Dazzle AI gains ain understanding of the users style, interests, hobbies, travel, people who matter and what matters to them, and more. Then the assistant can make suggestions.
Back in late 2025, she raised $8 million in seed funding on a $35 million valuation from a round led by Kirsten Green of Forerunner with participation from Kleiner Perkins, Greycroft, Offline Ventures, Slow Ventures, and Bling Capital.
According to a press release, Dazzle AI’s mission is “making technology more intuitive and genuinely useful in everyday life. The company aims to close the gap between what people want to do and what they can do with AI, developing tools that make technology simpler, smarter, and more approachable.”
“Throughout my career, I’ve loved making complex technology more intuitive,” said Mayer. “With Dazzle, our goal is to make AI feel simple, helping people get more done and delighting them along the way. Now that foundational models have reached a level of consistent excellence, they’ve become a reliable infrastructure. The new frontier is applications—leveraging that power to create real, tangible value. I’m thrilled to be building something new alongside an incredible group of investors and partners.”
“The builders of tomorrow’s winning platforms are not thinking in terms of incremental improvements or previous playbooks – they are thinking in entirely new ecosystems, with the courage to imagine paradigms that do not yet exist. As a leader, Marissa embodies the ambition and bravery that’s essential to taking this kind of big swing,” said Green. “We have barely scratched the surface of having AI integrated into daily routines in a way that feels human, enriching, and transformatively useful.”
